Apple is closing more stores due to increased cases of COVID-19


A handful of Apple Stores in the US and Canada will not be able to meet customers’ last-minute shopping needs. according to BloombergThe tech giant has temporarily closed eight locations due to an increase in COVID-19 cases among the public and among its employees. Apple typically closes a retail store if about 10 percent of its employees test positive for COVID-19, the news agency said.

The following websites have been closed since Tuesday:

  • Dadland in Miami

  • Gardens Mall in Palm Beach

  • Lenox Square in Atlanta

  • Cumberland Mall in Atlanta

  • Highland Village in Houston

  • Summit Mall in Ohio

  • Cyclist Lynn in New Hampshire

  • Saint Catherine in Montreal

The company also closed stores in Hawaii, Maryland, Ohio, Ottawa (Canada) and Texas earlier this month, although it only lasted a few days. However, one of the retail locations in Miami remains closed. The company said Bloomberg In a statement: “We are monitoring conditions regularly, and will adjust our health measures to support the well-being of customers and employees. We remain committed to a comprehensive approach for our teams that combines regular testing, daily health checks, employee and client concealment, deep cleaning, and paid sick leave.”

Perhaps in an effort to convince people to shop online instead, Apple is offering customers “free 2-hour express mail delivery on in-stock items.” Offer does not apply to “Custom Engraved Mac products and … certain order types including orders paid with finance or by bank transfer.” But as long as the product is eligible and available — it’s the holidays and companies are still struggling with shortages of ingredients, so availability will likely be limited — buyers can get their orders free if they order before 12 noon on December 24.

Apple took further steps earlier this month after a spike in the number of cases and the emergence of the Omicron variant. It has opted to postpone plans to return to the office, which were due to begin in February, and has brought back mask requirements at all of its US stores.
