If your base iPad doesn’t have all the power or whistles you’re looking for, your best bet is the 2020 iPad Air. We gave the tablet a score of 90 when it was first introduced thanks in part to its fast performance, healthy battery life, and fun colors. The iPad Air is back on sale for $599 on Amazon now for $539, or $60 off its regular price. The silver model is only discounted at the time of writing, but if you don’t mind skipping one of the unique color options, this sale price is one of the best we’ve seen in months.

The Air sits between the 10.2-inch iPad and the iPad Pro as Apple’s mid-tier option. Running on an A14 Bionic chipset with a 6-core CPU and quad-core GPU, this particular model for sale has 64GB of storage and WiFi 6 capabilities. Apple has updated the design of the tablet to make it look more like a pro, with flat edges and a port USB-C charging and a gorgeous 10.9″ Liquid Retina display. You won’t get FaceID on this device, but you will get TouchID thanks to the fingerprint reader on the device’s power button.

Overall, we found the Air to be fast performing and WiFi speeds, and its battery lasted up to 12.5 hours in our tests. While the latest iPad Pro versions are better if you’re looking for a laptop alternative, you can use the Air as a 2-in-1 device on the go thanks to its compatibility with Apple’s Magic Keyboard. It also supports the second generation Apple Pencil, allowing it to be a digital notebook for those who prefer to write things down by hand.

A discount like this is a good thing to consider if you want a multi-purpose tablet one step away from your basic iPad. However, there are some noteworthy discounts on the 10.2-inch tablet now, too. The 256GB WiFi model is priced at $30 and drops to $449, while the 256GB WiFi + Cellular model drops a record $580.
