General Motors Officially Unveils Its Chevrolet Silverado Electric Truck


We all know this is coming. During his keynote address at CES 2022 on Wednesday, General Motors CEO Mary Barra officially unveiled the new Chevrolet Silverado EV 2024, GM’s second all-electric model built on the Ultium battery platform.

The full-size electric pickup truck will be available in two versions when it arrives late next year; The first version of the RST and WT model designed for fleet use. Both will provide an estimated range of 400 miles, accommodate fast charging speeds of up to 350 kW (allowing 100 miles of range to be added in about 10 minutes), and include 10.2 kW of off-board power to power anything from wired power tools to home accessories in Power failure condition. The RST is expected to make 664 horsepower with more than 780 lb-ft of torque, and run from 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds (GM estimates). The RST will be able to tow up to 10,000 pounds and carry 1,300 pounds of payload. The WT, on the other hand, will deliver 510 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, 8,000 pounds of towing and 1,200 pounds of payload to start, despite having a maximum towing package capable of towing up to 20,000 pounds of towing.

The two Silverado variants will also feature four-wheel steering over 24-inch rims and a multi-layered tailgate that can accommodate a payload of approximately 11 feet. Inside, drivers will enjoy a fixed glass roof and a 17-inch LCD infotainment system. Additional features will be installed via OTA updates.

If you want one of the first RSTs, be prepared to pay for that honor. General Motors debuts the Consumer Edition Silverado with an MSRP of $105,000. Yes, that’s six figures for a “working” truck. The WT will be slightly more affordable at $39,900, but depending on the options, potential buyers can expect to pay “MSRPs around $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 and more, allowing them to choose a truck that meets their needs in terms of capacity and pricing, According to General Motors.

The Silverado joins the Hummer EV in General Motors’ burgeoning electric vehicle lineup and will be manufactured in the same Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, GM’s Plant Zero, when production ramps up in 2023. They will soon be joined by a Chevrolet Equinox EV SUV (with a starting price tag of around 30,000 dollars) and a Chevy Blazer EV, both of which became available sometime in 2023.
