Google Fit for iPhone can now measure your heart rate

These days with wearables being so cheap and with so many brands to choose from, it’s not hard to find a fitness tracker or smartwatch that can track your heart rate. However, if you don’t have plans to join the wearable bandwagon yet, don’t worry because there are apps for that.

Google recently updated its Google Fit app for iOS devices where it can now measure your heart rate using the iPhone’s camera. How it’s done, users place their finger on their iPhone camera and apply some light pressure on it, and from there, the app will try to read the changes in the color of your fingers to determine your heart rate.

It will take about 30 seconds to read your heart rate, after which the results will appear at the bottom of the screen. Google previously introduced a similar feature for its Android app, so it looks like it has finally made its way to the iPhone as well. However, this feature is much closer to capturing your heart rate at the moment, unlike wearables that can provide users with continuous tracking.

However, it may be useful if you are not feeling well and want to know if something is wrong. Google notes that the feature is not intended to be used as a diagnostic tool, but as we said, it may be useful if you feel that something is not quite right for you and want to bring these results to your doctor for further consultation.
