Lego isn’t quite finished with your video game nostalgia quest. After nearly a year of operation, the company revealed that sonic the hedgehog The Green Hill Zone set will be available online and in Lego stores on January 1, 2022, for $70 (£60). Brick-based recreation of the game’s most popular district includes minifigs for Sonic and Dr. Eggman (also known as Dr.Robotnik), two creatures, and Phantom Ruby. Unfortunately, Sonic won’t blast off in episodes, but there is a technic lever to unlock him (or any other characters) along with the episodes and boosts you’d expect.
The set is the ultimate adaptation of introducing Sonic fan Viv Grannell to the Lego Ideas platform. Their concept scooped the 10,000 votes set needed to consider a real set. Lego officially launched in February.
You probably won’t see many video game-themed Lego sets in the near future. Sonic and Mario are two of the most popular franchises – other Lego related game ideas for the legend of zeldaAnd metroid And the other classics didn’t even come close to passing the 10,000 vote threshold. This demonstrates the power of crowdsourcing, though, and is good news for kids who grew up with Genesis (or Mega Drive) in the living room.
