It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the new Mario Kart title. The last major title was Mario Kart 8 originally released for the Nintendo Wii U in 2014, then the Deluxe Enhanced Nintendo Switch version was released back in 2017, so we’re not sure if we can really count that.
However, for those who are looking forward to seeing a new major title released in the series, you might be in luck. According to analyst Dr. Serkan Tutu, he wrote a prediction for Gamesindustry.biz claiming that Mario Kart 9 is apparently in development, and that Nintendo could tease the game later this year.
The analyst adds that the game is expected to feature a fresh twist, although that revelation in itself isn’t a huge misrepresentation because Nintendo typically introduces new items in new titles to help keep things fun and exciting. For example, there was the introduction of two-wheeler karts and also anti-gravity features in some of the earlier titles.
We’re not sure if the new Mario Kart 9 will launch on the Switch or the next iteration of the Switch. There have long been rumors of Nintendo working on a “Pro” version of the console, something the company has repeatedly denied, but with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S now on the market, it makes sense that Nintendo could be planning new hardware to keep up.
