Samsung says the Galaxy Flip 3 has motivated more people to switch than its flagship devices

The latest foldable Galaxy devices have been a huge success. Samsung shipped four times more foldables in 2021 than it did in 2020. Moreover, it only took a month after they released the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 to surpass the cumulative total sales of their predecessors last year. The company also said it saw a “massive increase” in consumers jumping on brands specifically for its foldable phones — in fact, more people are turning to Samsung for the Flip 3 than for its flagship devices.

While Samsung didn’t release specific numbers, it said it saw a 150% increase in consumers switching brands for the Flip 3 compared to the Galaxy Note 20. It saw a 140% increase in people switching brands for foldable devices compared to the Galaxy S21 too. The Flip’s form factor is of course its main draw, along with its front screen which gives users a way to use their phone without having to open it. As for the Fold 3, people who responded to a Samsung survey said they got it for its large screen, multitasking capabilities, and S Pen support.

In this post, Samsung said that foldable devices are expected to grow tenfold by 2023, and they are investing heavily in research and development to be able to keep pace with the competing devices that are sure to emerge. One such competitor is the Huawei P50 Pocket, which is the company’s first vertically foldable model like the Galaxy Z Flip.
