Samsung has unveiled its largest curved monitor yet, the 55-inch Odyssey Ark, showing off its potential for both gaming and productivity. For gamers, it wraps around your field of view so you can see both in front of you and to your side when playing Flight Simulator, for example. But it can also be flipped 90 degrees in portrait orientation to work, showing zoom feeds, spreadsheets, and whatever else you want to see.
The Odyssey Ark is a Quantum Dot Mini LED display with a fairly steep curvature and 16:9 aspect ratio, as opposed to the much wider 32:9 format on the 49-inch Odyssey Neo G9. It can be rotated and tilted via the Height Adjustable Stand (HAS), so you can adjust it to the perfect angle. This is very basic, because it is so large when tilted vertically that you have to lift your neck to see the top of the screen.
It also offers multiple viewing options that “allow users to adjust the Odyssey Ark exactly the way they want it with a fully adaptable screen size to suit the game or program without compromising the 4K screen and bright, colorful images. The display also features wireless connectivity. A console to manage lighting and interface,” she wrote. Samsung in a press release. Other specs like refresh rate, color accuracy, response time, and more weren’t revealed, but with the Mini LED you can probably count on a reasonably bright, fast, and color-accurate display.
Samsung press shots only show the Odyssey Ark obliquely from the top and side, but YouTuber Tim Schofield has tweeted some photos from the CES show floor. Suffice to say, it’s pretty cool when you’re in portrait mode, essentially acting as a triple monitor with the top of it literally rising above the user. Samsung plans to bring it to the US in the second half of 2022, but has not yet revealed any pricing.
