Sony reveals more details about PlayStation VR2 and Sense consoles

Sony revealed some relevant details about its next-generation virtual reality headset at CES 2022, starting with the confirmation of its name: PlayStation VR2. The new headset will be compatible with PS5 and the new VR2 Sense consoles. The screen has a resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye, has a 110-degree field of view, is capable of frame rates from 90 to 120 Hz and supports 4K HDR.

The PS VR2 features inside-out tracking, which means it has multiple cameras built in to track the movements of your head and controllers. Sony has also introduced a new sensory feature to the device called “headphone feedback” that can make gaming and experiences more immersive. Headset feedback uses a built-in vibration motor to simulate in-game events – it can, for example, simulate the feeling of a character’s high pulse rate while hiding from a threat or the feel of objects passing near the character’s head.

3D audio and eye tracking are two other features that create immersion. The headset can detect the movement of your eyes, allowing you to interact with the game environment as if you were interacting with the real world. As for the PS VR2 Sense controllers, it will have the main features of the DualSense controllers, notably haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. While Sony hasn’t revealed the headset’s availability yet, the company has announced one of the first games to hit the platform. The call of the horizon from the mountain, A VR experience in the Horizon universe, apparently being built for PS VR2 and will be a platform exclusive title.
