Struggling to keep up with international travel rules?

A new survey by Jack’s Flight Club finds that the ever-changing rules around international travel are a major concern for potential travelers everywhere — even more so than COVID-19 itself.

Jack’s Flight Club, Europe’s largest cheap flight club with over 1,500,000 members, discovered:

73% of travelers said they have canceled or reconsidered their travel plans since discovering the new alternative from Omicron.

Participants were more concerned about the strictness of travel restrictions than about the risk of contracting COVID at the airport – 60% more participants agreed that travel rules were their biggest concern.

Fewer of these said they were more concerned about contracting COVID once they reached their destination (only 14% in total), and participants were more likely to agree that seeing other travelers wearing masks and social distancing would make them feel more comfortable when traveling again.

This concern was shared by all population groups, regardless of vaccination status: 59% of unvaccinated travelers said they were very concerned about the strictness of restrictions.

Meanwhile, 79% of travelers agreed that they found it difficult to keep up with changing travel rules.

A number of respondents were concerned that they would miss some essential documents and find themselves stranded at the airport.

One traveler said, “I’m just worried I’ll miss some directions and get stuck at the airport without the right tests or paperwork.”

Others were concerned that the rules might suddenly change once they reached their destination.

“I understand the travel industry has taken a huge hit financially, but I won’t lock my money into vacations that may not last, or may be worthless – either because of our restrictions or destination restrictions.

“What if you travel all the way to a country just so you are not allowed out of the hotel? Or for everything to close? It is a lottery about how much you will be charged for an exchange or refund, if you ever get one!”

Jack Sheldon, founder of Jack’s Flight Club, said,

“While COVID-19 means that governments often need to respond quickly in the face of a fast-moving situation, there is no doubt that travelers struggle to keep up with the complex and ever-changing rules around international travel. Most of our members are more concerned about who is in charge than they are about contracting COVID now – The costs associated with testing, insurance, and refunds make trip planning even more stressful.

“At Jack’s Flight Club, we’ve been doing our part to make things easier for our members. We’ve focused on promoting airlines that not only offer cheap flights, but can also provide flexibility in terms of rebooking and refunds.

“But if governments and airlines are to encourage travelers to return to the air in 2022, it is more important than ever to provide clear communication, reassurance and support so that people feel more confident investing in a holiday abroad again.”

What do you think about all this? Are you struggling to keep up with all the different rules and regulations of different countries? Have you traveled during the pandemic and found it more stressful than usual, worried about whether you had all the correct documentation? Maybe you traveled as a family and had to supervise all of this for several passengers? Was it unreasonably stressful? Will this keep you from traveling again or do you feel more confident having gone through this process previously?
