According to the initial report from Bloomberg, TikTok will partner with Virtual Dining Concepts and Grubhub to launch an exclusive TikTok Kitchen-branded delivery service in the US next year. This does not mean that TikTok will deliver food from restaurants, but instead they will make the food in these food ideas viral and give users the option of having it delivered to them.
According to TikTok, they plan to launch about 300 locations in March, and aim to open more than 1,000 restaurants by the end of 2022. TikTok asserts that they will give the creators credit for their dishes. “Proceeds from sales of TikTok Kitchen will go to support the creators who inspired the menu item and to encourage and help other creators express themselves on the platform in line with TikTok’s mission to inspire creativity and delight its users.”
However, TikTok has taken care to stress that this is not turning TikTok itself into a restaurant or becoming a restaurant company, but more of a campaign. However, we have to wonder about plans to open 1,000 restaurants by the end of 2022, it sure looks like that. Either way, if you enjoy all those viral food videos and want to try them out on your own without having to make your own, then this could be a feature to look out for for next year.
