I will never forget the first time I saw it Hayao Miyazaki movie. I was in college and this new animated movie was called Prince Mononoke It was coming to theaters. The trailers sounded great and I heard the occasional From the director’s other films such as My neighbor Totoro–BGrowing up in a small town, such movies were not readily available. Heck, even Mononoke It was released in the United States two years after its release in Japan. But I didn’t know this. I was at that point in any movie fan’s life where they would eat anything new and different. And I was About to get something really special.
So I sat for Prince Mononoke At the Angelica Film Center on Houston Street in New York City no Know what to expect. Two hours later, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The animation is so bright and lively that you want to reach for and grab it. Unique and original stories you have no idea where to go. And the very daring and vulnerable characters, you are immediately drawn to her. Prince Mononoke It instantly became one of my favorite animated films ever. And in subsequent years I devoured Not just Miyazaki’s new movies, but also old. kidnapped It was my favorite movie of 2001. Porco Rosso I sensed a nostalgia I had for airplane movies thanks to my grandfather. and classics like Totoro, Kiki’s delivery serviceAnd The rest moved me endlessly.
Later, when I started dating the woman who became my wife, I shared movies with her. I also became totally fascinated by the worlds and the work of this wonderful director. In the end, when we bought a house, my wife and I devoted an entire section of it to his business.
